John Carroll offers the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation (Confession), Baptism (preparation through RCIA), Confirmation, and Marriage. These sacraments are recorded at Gesu Parish, our Diocese of Cleveland parish of record. Please contact Kathleen Sardon for more information regarding the following sacraments.

Reconciliation (Confession)

Penance services are held each semester (during Lent and Advent), followed by the opportunity for individual confession.

Our regular confession schedule during the academic year is as follows:

  • Thursdays – Rev. Bernie McAniff, S.J. -- Saint Francis Chapel, 2:30-4pm.

Confessions are also heard weekly in the Church of the Gesu, located at 2490 Miramar Boulevard, at 3 p.m. on Saturdays (until the 4:30pm Mass) or by appointment.

Baptism & First Eucharist

Campus Ministry offers The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program for students who are interested in either joining the Catholic Church, or students who are already baptized Catholic, but have not yet received the sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. This is generally a 9-month preparation process, culminating at the Easter Vigil Mass.

Confirmation

John Carroll Campus Ministry staff will prepare students for Confirmation in the Roman Catholic Church. Confirmation is an 8-week program that also includes a service and retreat requirement. Students generally receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil Mass.

Celebrate the Spirit

This great tradition celebrates the beginning of a new school year with a Mass and lunch. The Mass is held at the Church of the Gesu (across Miramar Boulevard from Rodman Hall) during the first month of school. Following Mass there is a lunch and games for all on campus. Class schedules will be altered to accommodate everyone. All are welcome!

The Chapel Ensemble

This vocal/instrumental group composed of students provides music for Sunday liturgies. Often the Chapel Ensemble also is present at special liturgies such as the Mass of the Holy Spirit. No audition is required. The Chapel Ensemble for the 9pm Mass may also be taken for academic credit. This Ensemble rehearses each Sunday in the Saint Francis Chapel at 8pm and sings the Mass directly following the rehearsal at 9pm. All are welcome!

This vocal/instrumental group is composed of students, faculty, and staff. It rehearses on a regular basis and often provides music for Sunday liturgies. In addition, it works with special liturgies such as the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Homecoming and Family Weekend Mass, Christmas Carroll Eve Mass, and Baccalaureate Mass, as well as for special prayer experiences.
