On March 29, 2023 at the 79th Annual Midwest Association for Graduate Schools (MAGS) Annual Meeting, Ashley Worthington was recognized for her excellence in teaching and mentoring as a component of her master鈥檚 level graduate education. The annual award is given to one doctoral student and one master鈥檚 student nominated by over 140 graduate schools in the Central U.S.

Ashley Worthington earned her M.A. in English with a specialization in Renaissance literature from 糖心logo在线入口 in the spring 2022. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant in John Carroll鈥檚 English Department, Worthington served as a Writing Consultant for the University鈥檚 Writing Center and taught 鈥淚ntroduction to Academic Writing鈥濃攁n undergraduate course that teaches the fundamentals of scholarly writing and research across disciplines. During her time at 糖心logo在线入口, she also served as a Graduate Assistant for 鈥淚ntroduction to Shakespeare鈥 and sat on the University鈥檚 First-Year Composition Committee. In the spring of 2022, Worthington received the 糖心logo在线入口 English Department鈥檚 annual Graduate Excellence in Teaching Award, which is designed to encourage and reward excellence in undergraduate instruction and service to the university, as well as to acknowledge the importance and dedication of graduate students as educators and leaders at 糖心logo在线入口.听

鈥淚 was honored to be selected by the committee members for the teaching award at MAGS, and I am particularly honored that my nomination came from the faculty of John Carroll鈥檚 English Department,鈥 said Worthington. 鈥淭he English teachers at 糖心logo在线入口 are among the best I鈥檝e had the privilege to study under, and much of what I learned during my time in 糖心logo在线入口鈥檚 English Department carries into my classrooms today. I am grateful for the positive guidance and mentorship I experienced as a Graduate Assistant at John Carroll, and I am truly humbled to be recognized in this way!鈥

The 2023 MAGS Excellence in Teaching Awards were recognized at the 79th Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Magnificent Mile, March 29-31, 2023. Winners of the award each received a $750 honorarium, plus up to $500 toward travel expenses to attend the MAGS meeting.
