On April 19, 1886, Fr. Richard Gilmour, bishop of the Cleveland diocese, and Fr. Henry Behrens, S.J., superior of the Buffalo Jesuit Mission, signed the formal agreement to establish a Jesuit college in Cleveland. To honor this historic occasion, John Carroll established Founders' Day. This day allows members of the 糖心logo在线入口 community to celebrate all that makes 糖心logo在线入口 special; its history, mission, and most of all its people.
Br. Matt Wooters, S.J. '09 Vocation Promoter, Midwest Jesuits, will join us in our Founders' Day celebration this year, reflecting on Jesuit Spirituality and how 糖心logo在线入口 inspires individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service.
Br. Matt Wooters studied political science at 糖心logo在线入口 and was involved in a number of extracurricular activities including becoming a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the crew team and was very active in campus ministry. After graduating from 糖心logo在线入口, Matt moved to Belize for two years with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, where he served as a retreat leader in Punta Gorda and the surrounding villages. After Belize, Matt taught 7th and 8th grade at University of Detroit High School and Academy. Matt entered the Jesuits in 2012 and worked at a homeless shelter, taught ESL to adult refugees and served as a hospital chaplain. Matt took vows as a brother in 2014 and was missioned to Saint Louis University to get a master鈥檚 in social work. He also lived and worked at a migrant shelter in Guadalajara, Mexico, for six months, he later was missioned to Nativity Jesuit Academy, a K-8 school in Milwaukee, to be the school鈥檚 first school counselor for two wild and wonderful years. After that, Matt was missioned to the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University for a master鈥檚 degree in theological studies. Matt has been missioned to join the vocations team for the Midwest province.
