We live in a challenging time. COVID-19, economic turmoil, and protests focusing on racial equality and police reform, have turned our society on its head. It is important however to realize that we still have much to be thankful for.聽

Join fellow fellow alumni and friends of John Carroll as Fr. Mark Henninger, S.J. leads us in a reflective experience centered on the Daily Examen,聽St. Ignatius' prayer focusing on how God is present in all things.聽

Born in Cleveland, Fr. Mark Henninger has spent most of his life in the Jesuits and in academia, having earned his doctorate at UCLA in medieval philosophy and taught at a number of Jesuit universities. He has enjoyed living and working in a variety of settings, his first being at Loyola University Chicago in the philosophy department from 1984 to 1994. He then was sent to Zimbabwe to start up a school for young African Jesuits, after which he was appointed rector of the Jesuit community at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he continued to teach philosophy, including African philosophy.聽 He was then sent to Rome to teach at the Gregorian University, after which he accepted an endowed chair in medieval philosophy at Georgetown University, where he worked for ten years until 2014. He has worked for six years as a hospital chaplain at Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Il. and with University Ministry in the Medical Center of Loyola University. He now works mainly in spiritual direction and retreats. He spends his spare time (or did until Covid) at the Art Institute of Chicago, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and he enjoys politics, the news, history and visiting friends.
